Beatlemania Now and Later

For the entire month of March, Paradise Live at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will be graced with the presence of Beatlemania Now, a Beatles cover band that has brought their Broadway spectacle to Fort Lauderdale. The show began with a brief introduction video of The Beatles’ first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, complimented by an intimate setting that really made it feel as if we were meeting John, Paul, Ringo and George for the first time.

The band’s set started with the classic “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” which they did throughout the 90-minute show by encouraging crowd participation. Not only did the performers bear an uncanny resemblance to their respective Beatle, but the sound was nearly identical to that of the original tunes, thanks to the painstaking effort to use the same model of instruments the original Beatles used. And I got chills when everyone, ranging from young children to grandparents, sang “All You Need Is Love” in unison.

The faux Fab Four took the audience on a journey through Beatles history as if we were watching the show in a time machine. Between every costume change, which included the early mop top days and the Sergeant Pepper get ups, the big screen showed a clip about Beatlemania throughout the decades while giving us a glimpse of the impact the band has had on pop culture.

I must admit that the highlight of the evening for me was taking in some of the people in audience at Beatlemania. There was a kid around 7 years old sitting a few seats away from me. He knew every single lyric of every single song and he sang loudly and excitedly. It really displayed the timelessness of The Beatles’ music, especially with such a young generation that will surely keep Beatlemania alive for years to come.
