Ellie Goulding Halcyon Tour 2013

An enormous line wrapped around the Fillmore building. All the parking garages were packed and the fans were pouring out onto the street to see rising star Ellie Goulding kick off her United States Halcyon headlining tour.

I made my way into the center section just near the soundboard in time to see St Lucia kick off the night. St Lucia immediately stole my attention, playing melodies on synth with a steady beat. With each song St Lucia performed I moved closer to the stage to be able to truly relish their performance. After they closed their set, I bought their EP at the merchandise table.

Later, I relocated myself to a table on the upper level with a few old friends to enjoy Ellie Goulding show. Goulding kicked off her 19 song set with the powerful song “Don’t Say a Word.” I wasn’t sure what to expect from Ellie’s set, but it turned out to be a genuine , entertaining performance.

The highlights of her set included “Figure 8,” “Under the Sheets,” and “Anything Could Happen.”

Having seen Katy Perry’s last tour, which featured a mind-blowing stage production, it was a nice change to watch a pop act like Ellie Goulding . She didn’t use stage production to wow the crowd – her vocals were enough. Ellie Goulding is a musical force from England that is here to stay. If only American pop singers took cues from her! Goulding closed her set with a powerful ballad cover of “Your Song” followed by her hit single“Lights.” I highly recommend hearing Goulding sing live. You won’t be disappointed!
