A Run For The Coast, and Borrowed Time

at The Talent Farm, Pembroke Pines, FL

What’s a better way to start out a week filled with school and work than hitting a punk show?! Right after work I darted for The Talent Farm, a venue I use to visit once a week back in my high school days. The sight was one that hadn’t changed much: bands and the fans mingling outside while the stage was being set up.

First up were newly formed locals Borrowed Time. Although their lead vocalist was missing in action that night, they still carried an energy-filled set, with backing vocalists Marc and Jake splitting the lead vocals.

Up next was A Run for the Coast. The last time I caught this band was when they first formed in 2011. ARFTC has evolved their sound since then and truly put on a great set. They were energetic and engaged the crowd with every song.

Silver Snakes, an L.A. based band, kicked off their set with power in a dimly lit Talent Farm. Their music reminded me of a 90’s-influenced raw, rock sound similar to Fugazi and At The Drive In. Silver Snakes put on a solid set and had everyone in the venue banging their heads to the beat of every tune.

red-city-radio-dallas-tidwell-2 Next to take the stage was Red City Radio, who I have caught awhile back in West Palm Beach, FL. These Oklahoma punk rockers stole the night with their set on the floor and had everyone singing along and throwing their fists up. They weren’t going to let the lack of attendance stop them from putting on a strong showmanship of a set.

To end the night was Broadway Calls– the reason I came out. I last caught this Oregon-based band at The Fest in 2011, and I surely wasn’t going to miss this set. Broadway Calls kicked into their set with strong songs such as “Call It Off,” “Back to Oregon,” and “Be All That You Can Be.” These punk rockers were here to play their hearts out, pouring every ounce o energy they had into every song. You couldn’t help but scream the lyrics back as Guitarist and Singer Ty kicked into “Save our Ship.”

For a Monday night show at the Talent Farm I couldn’t have chosen a better set of bands to catch. From Silver Snakes’ 90’s influence to Red City Radios energetic set, and finally closing with Broadway Calls truly playing with their hearts on the stage.
