You could hear the roar of fans as they surrounded the green carpet that lay perfectly in front of the Raymond James Stadium. It was merely 2 p.m. and the streets near the stadium were filled with crazed fans. Some of the stars that walked down the carpet included Kevin Spacey, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
Following the green carpet was the Tata Motors IIFA award ceremony; the event everyone was looking forward to. Shadid Kapoor and Farhan Akthar hosted the show with their hilarious jokes and god-awful rapping skills. Not only that, but John Travolta danced on stage with Priyanka Chopra while Kevin Spacey did the “Lungi Dance” with Deepika, Farhan and Shadid.
While IIFA is considered the Oscar’s of Indian Cinema, it is also host to some of the most elaborate and magical performances. Priyanka Chopra, the sexiest woman in Bollywood, gave a marvelous performance as she hung, twirling, from the stadium ceilings. Ranveer Singh also gave a mind-blowing performance as he drove a motorcycle through the venue, enticing his fans for his routine. Without hesitation Singh jumped on the stage and began to dance to Ram Leela’s “Tattad Tattad” and “Ishqyaun Dhishqyaun.” Singh’s performance was magnetic and electrifying as he swayed his hips, pumped his chest and blew kisses to his adoring fans. I couldn’t contain my excitement for I caught myself dancing and pining over Singh’s provocative dance moves and outrageously good looks.
Performance in a Leading Role (Male) went to Farhan Akhtar and Performance in a Leading Role (Female) went to Deepika Padukone.
While I may not have understood Hindi, the IIFA awards did not disappoint during its 7-hour award show. With all their captivating performances and thoughtful thank you speeches, I found myself clapping and tearing up. Fortunately for the fans who could not attend the event, this show will premiere in June on Star Plus.
