Back in October, multi-genre Jewish artist Matthew Paul Miller, better known as Matisyahu, celebrated the 10 year anniversary of his breakthrough album Live at Stubb’s by releasing Live at Stubb’s Vol III.  This third volume gives you a new look at his reworked versions of favorite songs such as “King Without a Crown”, the song that skyrocketed his career and made it to the Top 40 in the U.S. over a decade ago.

The once Hasidic singer/song writer first rose to fame in 2004, introducing us to a reggae sound blended with other music genres depicting lyrics inspired by the Torah -Judaism’s most important text. While his musical character was a novelty to some, he quickly became a sensation not only within the Jewish community, but also around the world, giving his audience something to believe in and delivering a message of positivity and faith among the youth.

In 2011, he shocked the world when he posted on Twitter a photo of his clean-shaven face and wrote “No more Chassidic reggae super star.” He was then forced to give an explanation, when fans and followers started speculating he had lost his religious faith.

“Sorry folks, all you get is me… no alias,” Miller said. “When I started becoming religious 10 years ago it was a very natural and organic process. It was my choice… I felt that in order to become a good person I needed rules –lots of them- or else I would somehow fall apart. I am reclaiming myself. Trusting my goodness and my divine mission.”

Although he broke away from Orthodox Judaism that same year, he still feels a strong connection and quotes the religion as a source of inspiration to his music.

Throughout his prodigious career, he’s toured the world, released five studio albums, and sold over 3 million tracks worldwide. Now, to celebrate his 10-year journey and in support of Live at Stubb’s Vol III, he’s embarked on a fall/winter tour, and of course, The Sunshine State is included.  Winning! This tour will take fans of all ages on a rollercoaster ride through the evolution of his very first album to his most recent release.
