The long-awaited summer vacation is finally here! It’s a time to catch up on sleep and relaxation, but most of all, it’s a time to have fun. Although it may seem unlikely, there are many ways to enjoy your summer without breaking the bank. This summer, you don’t have to stay in and binge-watch Netflix every day – you can go out and explore what South Florida has to offer. Here are the top five South Floridian hotspots you can visit to make your summer a memorable one:
Wynwood – Miami’s Wynwood Art District is the perfect place to visit if you’re in the mood to see art, eat delicious food and explore new things. This popular hotspot is filled with tons to do, from looking at the dozens of art galleries and painted walls to watching old films at Wynwood’s O Cinema.
Venetian Pool – The Venetian Pool is the perfect place to go with friends on a hot summer day to relax and have fun. Visiting this Venetian-style lagoon carved out of coral rock is a must! Not only is it a cool place to visit – it’s also a historic landmark. Spend the day splashing around in the pool and walking around the stone bridges and garden.
Bayside – Located next to Downtown, Bayside – a large outdoor-style mall with live entertainment, a great view of the ocean and numerous cafes – is a great place to visit with family or friends during the summer. At night, Bayside comes to life as all the stores and boats along Miami’s waterfront turn on their lights and play music. You can dance, walk along the water and enjoy the view while riding a tour boat.
Vizcaya – If you’re in the mood to experience art and nature like never before, visit Villa Vizcaya. Villa Vizcaya gives you the opportunity to see beautiful Italian Renaissance gardens and European-style villa museums. The museum is open every day from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is only $10 with student ID.
Miami Beach – Miami Beach is definitely one of the places you’ll want to spend your summer at. Plan ahead with friends and take sandwiches and snacks to save money. Playing volleyball with your friends and tanning under the hot sun is just that much better at the beautiful shores of Miami Beach.
Aside from these hotspots, there are plenty other inexpensive opportunities in the city. Moore Park offers dance and yoga classes at no cost; all age levels are welcome. For movie fanatics, the city of Hialeah screens different movies, and Goodlet Park is surrounded by food trucks offering a variety of food choices. At night, Dolphin Mall offers live musical performances from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Summer vacation should be spent having fun with friends and family; there is no excuse for staying home and missing out on the exciting places South Florida has to offer. Spend your days going to the beach, visiting museums and spending hours outdoors to make this summer the best one yet!
