5 Spook-tacular Events in October

Every year, Halloween fanatics search frantically for ways to bask in the thrilling season. The best way to do so is by attending events where the world of horror allows our imaginations to run free, whether it’s through our costumes or the countless shadows we dare to step into. Here are some spook-tacular events being held throughout the month of October:

Spooky Zoo Nights at Zoo Miami

An all ages event, Spooky Zoo Nights at Zoo Miami (12400 SW 152nd St) will run Oct. 28, 29, and 31 from 7 to 11 p.m. each night. The event will feature Dr. Wilde’s Creepy House, “spooky” tram and carousel rides, scary storytelling and costumed characters. Admission is $14.95 per person ($12.95 for zoo members). Hooray for Halloween!

This fall festivity will feature Halloween arts and crafts, refreshments, raffle prizes, gift bags, photobooths, and more, and it will be hosted at Genius Jones in Wynwood (2800 NE 2nd Ave.). The event will take place on Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Petite Artist, a local art project that celebrates childhood creativity, will be partnering with the Miami Children’s Foundation (MCF) and will be accepting donations at the event. Admission is free, but those attending will be asked to bring a new, unused item from the MCF wish list, Monetary donations will be accepted on site.

Nightmare on Flagler Street

Beware of the “Nightmare on Flagler Street,” a Halloween block party in Downtown Miami that will be taking place on Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. There will be live concerts for both kids and adults and family-friendly activities such as trick-or-treating, face painting, a magic show, a thriller dance party, carnival rides, kid & adult costume contests, and more.

Figure Drawing Studio Halloween Party

For those who seek a creative outlet during this spooky season, ArtCenter South Florida will be hosting an Open Lab on Oct. 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. at 924 Lincoln Road Studio #100. Participants can sketch a costumed model for just $12. A great way to practice figure drawing, the event will provide paper and pencils for those planning to attend. Guidance will be available from artist Will McGaul.

With over 30 rooms to explore one’s darkest fears, the House of Horrors at Miami International Mall is the largest haunted house in South Florida and, therefore, the most anticipated Halloween event of the year. Doors are open from Sept. 29 through Oct. 31.

Weekday tickets for Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays can be purchased online at for $15, rather than the $29 expected at the door. The weekend ticket for Thursdays through Sundays can be purchased online for the full price of $29. Children of aged 6 or under may purchase a Child ticket of $15; however, this tier of admission does not include haunted house experiences.

Adult admission includes one-time dual haunt experiences, unlimited attractions, and unlimited carnival rides.
