4 DIY Halloween Party Foods

Costumes, candies, and creative treats are all required for a successful Halloween holiday. If you’re planning on throwing a spooky bash, here are five themed finger foods and sweets that will give your guests a good scare.

Mummy Pizzas

Unwrap their hunger while scaring your guests away with delicious mummy pizza bites.

What you need:

  • One bag of string cheese
  • One can of pizza sauce
  • English muffins or pizza dough
  • Some black olives

How to make it:

  1. Flatten the pizza dough into small discs, or just use English muffins.
  2. Add some pizza sauce, followed by two slices of black olives that will serve as the mummy’s eyes.
  3. Pull some string cheese apart and place it on top of the pizza sauce in a pattern similar to a mummy’s wrap: diagonal across the face.
  4. Once you’re done, place the mini pizzas in a 375 F oven for 10 minutes give or take, depending on how the cheese has melted.

Eyeball Lollipops

Here’s a treat that will stare at your guests until they take a bite.

What you need:

  • Lollipop sticks
  • Donut holes (or cake pops– bonus if they’re red velvet!)
  • Melted white chocolate
  • Black food dye
  • Any food color dye for your favorite eye color
  • A small tube of red icing

How to make it:

  1. Melt the white chocolate and cover the tip of the lollipop stick with a thick layer.
  2. Cover the donut hole with the white chocolate and put it on the stick.
    • Leave it in the fridge for five or so minutes.
  3. Get two small globs of white chocolate and place the food dye in them– one black and the other the eye color of your choice.
  4. Take the soon-to-be eyeballs out of the fridge and dab some of the eye color in on the white eyeball in a circle.
  5. Place some of the black icing over it in a smaller circle and finally add a dot of white over the black.
  6. Add some fine red lines around the white part of the eye to replicate veins.

Ghost Meringues

In the spirit of Miami’s Cuban culture, what better Halloween treat than meringues?

What you need:

  • Egg whites
  • Sugar
  • Black icing

How to make it:

  1. Whisk the egg whites and gradually add sugar.
  2. Once stiff peaks form while whisking (meaning that the mixture becomes very thick), put the batter in a piping bag.
    • A Ziploc with a cut-off corner works just as well.
  3. In a swirling motion, as though you were icing a cupcake, dollop the meringue batter to baking sheets.
  4. Place it in the oven at 245 F for about 40-50 minutes.
    • Make sure they don’t get brown.
  5. With the black icing or decorating gel, create faces on the meringues. Go for any expression – happy, sad, scary, or scared!

Witch’s Fingers

See it in the video above.

With this treat, everyone will be pointing fingers at the chef and thanking them.

What you need:

  • Pre-made dough
  • Almonds
  • Red frosting
  • A knife or fork

How to make it:

  1. Roll the dough into the shape of a finger.
  2. Squeeze two areas of the “finger” to replicate knuckles.
    • With a knife or fork, make cuts throughout the finger to simulate the wrinkles we have on our fingers.
  3. Place an almond at the tip to make the fingernail.
  4. Make several fingers and place them in the oven at 320 F for 20-25 minutes.
  5. Once the fingers are done baking, remove the almond and place red icing underneath them for added detail.
