Independence Day in South Florida: Last-Minute Ideas

Every day in the United States citizens celebrate their freedom, but no celebration of freedom quite compares to the annual nation-wide festivities on July 4th, that light up the skies and fill the air with the tantalizing aroma of smoked meat.

For those who will be in the Sunshine State for the holiday weekend, here are some festivities that you can be a part of to celebrate America’s day of independence the South Florida way.

Family Friendly Fun

For those looking to have fun with the little ones, Jungle Island’s July 4th Animal Parade is the perfect place to be. Children who come dressed as their favorite animal will get free admission to the park, with the purchase of an adult ticket, and they will be asked to join the parade. Face painting, crafts, games and aquatic activities, including water slides and paddle boats, are activities that will be available throughout the day.  The event will take place on Thursday, July 4th at 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail Miami, FL 33132 from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM. If you’re looking for a more traditional celebration for the family, look no further. Bayside Marketplace will be hosting America’s Birthday Bash on Thursday, July 4th from 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM. There will be numerous FREE events including live music, face painting, balloon animal sculpting, games, giveaways, and a fireworks show. Another more traditional event that will be taking place in the evening is the Coconut Grove Fourth of July Concert & Fireworks Show. The event will feature live music, food, and drinks from local restaurants, games and kids activities, and a firework show.

The celebration will take place from 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM on Thursday, July 4th at 2699 S.W. 27th Ave Miami, FL 33133. The event is free with registration and dog-friendly. For more information, visit culturecrusaders.

Make it Your Own

Whether you’re going to be in the Sunshine State or a million miles away, you can still celebrate the holiday in style with these DIY crafts. If you’re having a barbeque, there is no better way to welcome guests into your home than with this Patriotic Clothespin Wreath.

To make your wreath, you will need the following materials:

  • Clothespins
  • A Sturdy Floral Ring
  • Red, White and Blue Paint 
  • Stars

Fourth of July is all about lighting up the sky, but fireworks can be hazardous and scary for those sensitive to loud noises. If you’re looking for a way to light up the night in a way that is just as explosive but less of a hassle, look no further than these Patriotic String Lights.

  • Tin cans (emptied and cleaned with tops and bottoms removed)
  • Red Ribbon
  • White Ribbon
  • Aqua Baker’s Twine
  • Blue indoor paint
  • White paint
  • Star stencil
  • Stencil adhesive
  • Paint brush
  • Hot glue
